What is Taekwondo ?

Taekwondo is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts, that teaches more than physical fighting skills. It is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing our spirit and life through training our body and mind. Today, it has become a global sport that has gained an international reputation, and stands among the official games in the Olympics.

What does the word Taekwondo mean ?

Let's take a closer look at the meaning of the word "Tae" "Kwon" "Do." It is composed of three parts as shown in the English spelling, though it is one word in Korean. "Tae" means "foot," "leg," or "to step on"; "Kwon" means "fist," or "fight"; and "Do" means the "way" or "discipline." If we put these three parts together, we can see two important concepts behind "Tae Kwon Do".

What are the benefits of Taekwondo ?

At Chang Lee's Taekwondo you will learn how to build confidence, self-esteem, discipline, perseverance, and so much more, through training your mind, body, and spirit.

You will also get fit and healthier through our taekwondo program.

What are the tenets of Taekwondo ?

There are five tenets of  taekwondo, they are courtesy, integrity,  perseverance, self control, and indomitable spirit.

  • Courtesy (Ye Ui) - Excellence of manners or social conduct.

  • Integrity (Yom Chi) - Honesty and soundness of moral character; adherence to moral and ethical principles.

  • Self-Control (Guk Gi) - The ability to control one's emotions and behavior.

  • Perseverance (In Nae) - Steady persistence in a course of action especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.

  • Indomitable Spirit (Baekjool Boolgool) - Your fortitude, enthusiasm, moral character, and determination to prevail is never diminished even in the face of what appears to be insurmountable odds.
